VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are currently looking for a few more women (or men!) to help with church cleaning. Every other Friday, it has been our tradition to have teams of two people clean the glass doors to the entry and worship space and to dust the pews and straighten the missals. While we do have some people willing to help, we need a few more so that each team will only have to clean twice a year. Cleaning takes about one hour. Please contact Karin Sheer (232-0238) if you can spare two hours per year to help keep our church sparkling.

BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASS!
Attention all expectant mothers and fathers and new parents. We will be having a Baptism Preparation class on Sunday, September 12th, at 9 am. If you will be attending this class, please call Terri Wellman @ 474-5064 or email her at twell@fuse.net.

ANNUAL RED MASS
Each year in cities around the world, lawyers, judges and lawmakers come together to pray for God’s grace and wisdom to assist them in carrying out faithfully their professional duties. The service, known as the Red Mass, is well attended by people of all faiths, and is open to the public. This year’s Red Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, at 4:00 pm, at The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1141 Madison Ave. Covington, KY 41011. For more information, please contact Dana Shelton, 513-374-6364.

ARE YOU CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC RELIGION?
Are you non-Catholic, or do you know a non-Catholic, who may have questions about where God is calling you to grow in faith? Do you feel as though God may be leading you to a deeper relationship with Him? Would you like to explore the possibility of coming to know God through the Catholic faith? We are always ready to enter into discernment with someone and/or to begin the process by which an adult or older child becomes a Catholic, either by full initiation in baptism, confirmation and first communion, or by reception into full communion with the Catholic Church for those baptized in another Christian denomination. Call Aimee Baer at the parish office (561-9431 ext 13) for more details.

HAITI PRESENTATION at ST. JOHN FISHER
In January 2010, Haiti was devastated by a catastrophic earthquake, killing over 500,000 people and leaving the country in ruins, with over a million of its citizens displaced. Cincinnati Enquirer reporter and humanitarian relief worker Mark Curnutte will be here for an evening of discussion about Haitian recovery efforts and their current focus on jobs, education and basic necessities for the Haitian people. Join us on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 7 pm in the former worship space. Admission is free and any donations will go to the Catholic relief organization Hands Together. There will be dessert and discussion after the presentation. This enlightening and inspiring event is brought to you by St. John Fisher’s Social Action Team and the Youth Group.

CONTAINERS AND BOWLS
If you are one of the generous families who provided breakfast for our teachers and helpers during Summer Religious Ed and have not picked up your container, they are in the kitchen in Galvin Hall. We are sure you will need the Tupperware or casserole soon. Thank you so much, everything was delicious and appreciated.

WE WILL be COLLECTING the SMALL PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS you have been collecting from hotels and motels this year on September 12th and 19th. There will be receptacles in the gathering space for you to deposit these items. They will be taken to Mary Magdalen House and Tender Mercies by Elaine Rolfes and Jeanne Kavanaugh. Thank you!

SERVER TRAINING has BEEN SCHEDULED!
We have scheduled a training session for potential Alter Servers at St. John Fisher. Would you be interested in being a server at our Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning Masses? We invite fifth grade through high school students to join us. As part of our stewardship it is important for all of us to contribute to parish life. This is one important way that you can be of service to St. John Fisher. Please give this some serious consideration. Talk it over with your parents, and if you are able to be part of this ministry we would be glad to have you. Server training sessions will be on Tuesday, September 7th at 5:30 pm, or Wednesday, September 8th at 5:30 pm. There is a form on our web site @ www.sjfchurch.org  for you to sign up. See you on Tuesday or Wednesday.

SOCIAL ACTION NEWS
Are you one of the many Parishioners who have expressed an interest in community outreach?
The Social Action Committee is currently gathering a list of prospective volunteers for the sandwich window at Mercy Franciscan at St. John in Over-the-Rhine. The sandwich window is open seven days a week, and serves more than 200 individuals per day with lunch of a sandwich, hot soup (during the cold months) fruit and dessert. If you are willing to make sandwiches for and/ or serve meals to the poor in our community one Sunday a month at lunch, please contact either Karin Sheer (232-0238) or Mark Roberto (706-4382) for more information. There is also a sign up sheet near the old gathering space for this purpose. Check out more upcoming social action activities by visiting the parish website at: http://www.sjfchurch.org/social_action.htm

St John Fisher Prayer

Most loving Father,
You command me to love You
with all my heart and soul, mind and strength.
But I am sure that I do not do so.
I know this by reflecting on how I loved others:
I loved them to the point of rarely forgetting them.
They were constantly present to my memory,
my heart dwelt on them almost all the time,
and their image ran through my head
in their presence as well as in their absence.

O loving Father,
I regret to say that I do not act this way toward You.
I do not keep You in my memory,
nor do I have You present in my thoughts,
nor is my heart sufficiently occupied with You.
As soon as the merest trifle enters my head,
I drop You and lose sight of You.
As soon as the slightest whim enters my heart,
I discard You and quickly forget You…

So with all the fervour of my being
I ask You to grant me Your Holy Spirit
Who will deliver me from this weakness of mine.
Your Holy Spirit will enable me to love You
with all my heart and soul, mind and strength,
for He is the origin of all true love.

St John Fisher (1469-1535)
