NEWTOWN 5K - HUGE SUCCESS!
THANK YOU to everyone who supported this year's 5K and made it a
huge success, both in raising funds & building community. Over 90
parishioners participated as volunteers, runners, walkers, & sponsors.
Nearly 760 runners & walkers covered the course despite the hot, humid
weather, then enjoyed refreshing fruit, drinks, music, prizes, & more in
Moundview Park after the race. It will be a few weeks before all the
bills are in and we can announce the final numbers, but the initial
financial results are positive as well. Also, the many canned food
donations are helping to stock the Choice Pantry of Inter Parish
Ministries.
In addition, we are especially grateful to the core committee who has
spent countless hours in preparation for the race. Ron Bona-Hatem, Steve
Meisman, Steve Bentley, Rob Tracy, Paul Greulich, Steve Sholtes, and Lee
Murrell have once again done a wonderful job of making the 5K flow
smoothly and be an enjoyable experience for all the participants. We are
grateful for their generous gift of time and talent to Saint John Fisher
Parish in making this year's race a success
PARISH PICNIC
A HUGE thanks to everyone who volunteered at the Parish Picnic. It was a
fun-filled evening. We would like to say a special note of gratitude to
the band Pandamonium whose members are Connor Farley, Danny McGonigle,
and Adam Clark. They generously gave of their time and talent to play at
the picnic. They added a very festive flair to the night! Also, a BIG
thanks to Doug and Melissa Wessling for the delicious smoked BBQ and
corn they prepared for the picnic. It was out of this world. And another
note of special thanks to Rick and Carla Benken who organized the fun
games that children and adults alike had fun playing.

pastoral council who are completing their term. Perhaps you have some
interest in participating in the discernment process. We will have two
(2) opportunities for anyone who may have questions concerning
participation on pastoral council: Saturday August 28th, 10:00 - 11:00
am, or Monday August 30th at 7:00 pm. The purpose of these meetings is
informational. Members of pastoral council will be available to answer
any question you may have.
COMBONI RHYTHMS TASTE of MISSION

ARE YOU CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC RELIGION?
Are you non-Catholic, or do you know a non-Catholic, who may have
questions about where God is calling you to grow in faith? Do you feel
as though God may be leading you to a deeper relationship with Him?
Would you like to explore the possibility of coming to know God through
the Catholic faith? We are always ready to enter into discernment with
someone and/or to begin the process by which an adult or older child
becomes a Catholic, either by full initiation in baptism, confirmation
and first communion, or by reception into full communion with the
Catholic Church for those baptized in another Christian denomination.
Call Aimee Baer at the parish office (561-9431 ext 13) for more details.
CONTAINERS AND BOWLS
If you are one of the generous families who provided breakfast for our
teachers and helpers during Summer Religious Ed and have not picked up
your container, they are in the kitchen in Galvin Hall. We are sure you

St John Fisher Prayer
Most loving Father,
You command me to love You
with all my heart and soul, mind and strength.
But I am sure that I do not do so.
I know this by reflecting on how I loved others:
I loved them to the point of rarely forgetting them.
They were constantly present to my memory,
my heart dwelt on them almost all the time,
and their image ran through my head
in their presence as well as in their absence.
O loving Father,
I regret to say that I do not act this way toward You.
I do not keep You in my memory,
nor do I have You present in my thoughts,
nor is my heart sufficiently occupied with You.
As soon as the merest trifle enters my head,
I drop You and lose sight of You.
As soon as the slightest whim enters my heart,
I discard You and quickly forget You
So with all the fervour of my being
I ask You to grant me Your Holy Spirit
Who will deliver me from this weakness of mine.
Your Holy Spirit will enable me to love You
with all my heart and soul, mind and strength,
for He is the origin of all true love.
